Hello and welcome! Whether you're new to our journey or have been following along since the beginning, we’re excited to reintroduce ourselves and share a little more about who we are and why we do what we do.


We’re Ayla and Tim—one part beekeeper, one part brewer, and 100% committed to bringing people together with clean, refreshing mead. Our story begins in 2017 when we decided to leave our careers—Ayla as a veterinarian and Tim as a mechanical engineer—to follow a different kind of calling. In 2018, we founded The Hive Taproom with one goal in mind: to create a space where people can disconnect from the chaos of daily life and reconnect with each other over a drink that’s as unique as the bond it’s meant to foster.


It’s a bit of a leap, right? From science and engineering to brewing mead? But the truth is, our journey isn’t just about changing careers. It’s about connecting people in a more meaningful way. We’ve always been fascinated by the idea of bringing people together—whether it’s over a good meal, a great conversation, or a cold drink. And in today’s world, where technology can often drive a wedge between us, we felt a deep pull to build something that encourages human connection.


We noticed how many couples, families, and friends spent more time on their phones than actually engaging with each other. Technology, while undoubtedly useful, often detracts from real, face-to-face conversations. It was clear to us that people were craving more authentic interactions—and we wanted to provide a space that encouraged just that.


Before the pandemic even became a conversation, we had already started to imagine The Hive as a place where people could feel truly seen, heard, and connected. A space where it’s not about labels or political sides, but about celebrating what makes us all human. Whether you're here to enjoy some trivia, catch live music, or simply relax with friends, we aim to create a warm, welcoming environment where everyone is accepted.


But let’s talk about what we’re really here for—our session mead. What sets us apart is our commitment to crafting a beverage that’s not only delicious but also clean and functional. Unlike traditional meads that can be heavy and sweet, our session meads are made with 100% raw honey and no added sugar. The result? A light, refreshing drink that’s crisp like cider or champagne, but with the natural depth of honey. It’s a drink that pairs well with a good conversation—whether you’re enjoying a quiet evening or hanging out with friends. The best part? No hangover! That’s right.
